Stillwater Violin Lessons

Stillwater Violin Lessons Near You

For those of you looking for Stillwater Violin Lessons, you’ve come to the right place.  I have my Masters Degree in Violin Performance from DePaul University.  In addition, I have Suzuki teacher training in all ten books.  Since the summer of 2005, I have gone to the Stevens Point Suzuki Institute to refine my teaching technique.  I have enjoyed the opportunity to take teacher training classes with different instructors as I feel every teacher has different things to offer.

Some people looking for Stillwater Violin Lessons may be hesitant about the Suzuki method.  But like all teaching methods, each method has its pros and cons.  Some observers of the Suzuki method might not like the delayed note reading component of this method.  Some people may feel that the procrastination of note reading may handicap a student in the future.  When I teach the violin, I like to teach how to play by ear so that students are able to learn pieces in which sheet music may not be available.  Depending on the student, I have also found that working with flashcards from  the very beginning is helpful to promote good sight reading skills in the future.  However, knowing the flashcards for note reading is not all that is necessary to become good at reading notes.  Sometimes students get lost when reading music.  Because of this, I point to music in the lesson and suggest that parents do the same at home.  When parents point to the music, students are able to train their eyes to focus on what he/she is playing without getting lost.

Sight reading is helpful for learning pieces faster and is an important part of orchestra auditions.  In fact I have heard of a few instances where people have played well.  However, the violinist who does a better job of sight reading in auditions is thought of as the superior player.

My students have the option of playing in two recitals per year. In addition, I also give fiddling lessons if that is what the student desires.

Stillwater Violin Lessons are convenient to Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC). CUMC is very close to highways 694, 94 and 494. Christ United Methodist is across from the corporate headquarters of 3M and very near Hudson Place/Burns Ave as well as Brookview Drive East.
